Karma Bums is a song about my realization that I had been living off a perception of Life that was not my own, and by doing so, I had acquired Karma that had left my heart with no home. I had been on the wrong path. I will always feel the suffering of the world, in order to rid myself of my own suffering I needed to find truth, answers, a purpose and a reason to make my Life worth living.
Jack Kerouac’s Book “Dharms Bums” got me thinking about my own experiences giving up western ideas for eastern philosophies. Inspired by not following a traditional path and a willingness to sacrifice material possessions on the chance that I might find an answer to the haunting question, “what is the purpose of life?”.
I wandered through Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism and ended up in a midwestern organic food store questioning meta-physical vegetarians, artistic misfits, atheist, and anarchists about their personal truths.
Finding out our true purpose for being here – first gravitate towards religion where we anticipate to find answers to the meaning of life but when even that falls short – we lean towards a more spiritual -eclectic, piece it together collage of truth- even this can become a living style- and that can be limiting.
Truth can not be dictated or carved out of theories and religious doctrines, truth is something that can be found anywhere you go – and it can be identified by our feelings. instinctively we know what is true, call it our common sense, gut feeling, intuition, or conscience, we know – and if you don’t- better start praying for a miracle.
I realized that every “way of living” has it’s limitations, and until I un-defined myself by physical preferences all I would be was a Karma Bum – mentally hitchhiking my way through a defined (limited) perception of Life (culture).
I’m definitely being careful to not be sucked into society’s numbing attitude toward the big picture. As Mali knows, I’ve been doing a lot of inner work on myself, which has lead me to realize that being anti-society isn’t always such a bad thing nowadays.

Hey Jas,
Like you really need to do inner work, you’re already one of the most grounded and loving people I’ve come to know. I don’t feel it’s being anti-social to choose the company of individuals who don’t subscribe to the traps known to cause dysfunction. We are a new and genuine family of like minded people that want the best for the planet and those that love her.
love & pe@ce!

Mali,
You are extremely different and talented. Amazing song… I so get it! I freakin’ love the Boho Karma Bum wallpaper (downloaded ‘em). Such a good message and perfect timing for the “Greenies”. Can’t save the planet until they change themselves.
peace,
issy
Kaya,
You are so sweet
It helps being around a good team/family.
love ya!
Mali love, those are some deep thoughts!
I see these kbums everywhere, esp. around 3rd street in the Santa Monica area. You can literally see how not looking for meaning in life has caused people to slip beyond the threshold of sanity, or society’s idea of sanity. It’s sad looking into a person’s face and saying to yourself, “that person can snap in any minute now”.
It’s also a little frightening.
*rey
Rey,
Do you live in Santa Monica?
I know what you mean – I’ve seen that look in ppl’s faces more lately. At first I thought it was the effects of a bad economy, but I think it’s something more ominous. Thinking about it sends chills down my spine.

Wasn’t expecting this post to have this many ppl here
Hi Rey, nice to meet ya
Issy, thanks again for the positive feedback
@ Jas and Rey,
I’ve seen that blank look in the eye around Santa Monica, there’s no doubt kbums in that area
I want to write more about it, but I need to run out for a bit.
pe@ce and love,
