There is a scene in the movie “Outsourced” where the main character Todd (direct from corporate America) feels like “Kali” the goddess of destruction is following him around… Asha, a beautiful Indian woman who he begins to fall in love with, tells him… “Sometimes destruction is good. Kali ends one cycle so a new one can begin”. How true! Destruction can be a good thing, when it gets rid of something that is preventing us from moving forward.

We have all been stuck in bad cycles, bad habits, bad relationships, bad thoughts, bad jobs…etc etc…currently humanity is stuck in some larger bad cycles together….a bad global economy, global warming, war…just to name a few
In many ways my new song Kaboom shares the same spirit as Kali. The call to destroy things that no longer serve humanity’s greater good. Michael Moore said, it’s time for the “end of capitalism”…because it has become legalized greed. Personally there’s times when I’d like to Kaboom the entire world system…thinking maybe it would just be better to wipe the slate clean and start over, instead of building off of a government that has such a horrible history. If we did do this, maybe the new system could be created by a representative from every race and both genders instead of just one type of man that has lived up to the name” blue eyed devil”.
In “Kaboom” there is a line that says “bye bye republicans your end is our start” – for me, the republican party has become an icon of old ways that need to be abandoned in order to make room for a new way of life. Perhaps this is one of the many reasons Obama won…He looks and feels like the ending of one cycle so a new one can begin….many have good reason to call this change… hope!
In the words of the living legend Ani Difranco “The change that we want to see has to come from all of us and not just a super-hero”. She is right…we can’t wait for someone to save us from a bad economy, global warming, “sins” meaning mistakes, or our selves. We must all do our part by being our own “Kali’s” and KaBooming the part of ourselves that makes the line “I am my own worst enemy” true. By doing this, as individuals, we make the change we want to see outside of ourselves, begin to happen within. Automatically this begins to make the world a better place
Cheers to ending one bad cycle so a new one can begin – and to my new upcoming single Kaboom – which came from an inspiration to destroy the bad to make room for more good!

The Invocation to Kali by May Sarton
Kali, be with us.
Violence, destruction, receive our homage.
Help us to bring darkness into the light,
To lift out the pain, the anger,
Where it can be seen for what it is—
The balance-wheel for our vulnerable, aching love.
Put the wild hunger where it belongs,
Within the act of creation,
Crude power that forges a balance
Between hate and love.
