In response to the Sea World killing- If you can’t develop a connection with a whale in their natural habitat than it is not a real friendship- it’s a conditional “connection”… therefore fake and the interaction can change from tolerance to hate with no warning…
Subconsciously human beings want to experience a closeness with nature, which is why they flock to and pay to see these shows- deep down they want to believe that humanity and nature are so “together” – humanity wants to believe they are natural. But the un-natural approach (humanity/sea world) takes with these magnificent animals and life, is the same one that men took/take when oppressing women – mother nature is the ultimate female representation and hue-manity is always trying to make her it’s “b&tch” – Well being human means learning the hard way…. and even mother nature can only take so much before that soul attitude will punch back and teach the “babies” (unconscious minds) a lesson – God’s female half (mother nature) will play along out of love- but push her too far – and there will be a reminder of how fragile being human is.
In November 1983, Tilikum was captured from Iceland. Two other orcas were also captured along with him, Samoa and Nandu. He was around 4 years old at the time (He already knew what it was like to live free). Tilikum’s first park was Sealand of the Pacific. There on February 21, 1991, a trainer named Katie Byrne slipped and fell into a pool. All three adult orcas were in the pool. Tilikum grabbed Byrne’s leg and brought her down to the bottom of the pool (exactly how it was described as happening at Sea World). Tilikum is really a very sweet orca, as his name indicates. Trainers have said he does not like to be alone for long and sometimes even whines for company – although SeaWorld keeps him isolated from the other whales.
I Know Why the Caged Whale Cries
The free whale leaps
on the back of the waves
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his fins
in the orange sun sets
and dares to claim the sea.
But a whale that sinks
down his shallow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his fin is tipped and
his tale is confined
so he opens his mouth to cry.
The caged whale cries
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his sorrow is heard
on the distant hill for the caged whale
cries for freedom.
The free whale thinks of an ocean breeze
an the soft trade winds through those cresting waves
and the fat fish swimming in the dawn-bright rays
and he names the ocean his own.
But a caged whale stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his fin is tipped and his tale confined
so he opens his mouth to cry
The caged whale cries
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his sorrow is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged whale
cries for freedom.
