First installment of a possible blog theme story that reinvents Dorothy and the wizard of Oz. This time it’s 2010 and Dorothy’s been given the nickname Door after singing so many covers of her favorite group “The Doors”. This is an idea in development, leave comments below if you’d like to read more.
Dorothy aka singer/songwriter Door was so dedicated to running from her past that one day she woke up with amnesia… Now she’s trying to remember who she is – and why she can’t shake the feeling that something really horrible, something irreversible, is about to happen. She keeps getting flashes of memories and waking up in dreams that feel as real as being awake. The only problem is they all take place in India and Africa, two places she’s never been. Ever since Door left the Midwest she’s been living on the outskirts of Venice Beach. Spending the past 7 years in a renovated vw van that was transformed into a modern day caravan. Today when she woke up the only thing that felt vaguely familiar was a red crystal/silver bullet pennant necklace hanging from her van’s rearview mirror, twinkling in the morning sun. Even though Door could recall no place she had to be, she began to hurry as if she were late, because she knew if she didn’t get some answers soon, she might loose her mind. Pulling on her favorite pair of boots, she went reaching in her purse to find her keys, instead she found out exactly where she would be heading. Bound to the handle of a gun with a flimsy rubber band was a receipt from Zulu Tattoo. On the back someone had written “Call me if you get lost – yours truly – Oz”. She knew there had to be someone or something there to help her remember because tattooed on her inner arm was the saying “home is where the heart is” under a picture of the magician tarot card that read OZ.
Weeks had passed when the LAPD arrived at Door’s van. They had receiving several strange complaints about loud music and weird popping sounds. They entered into her caravan and switched off “the end” by the doors that had been looping loudly like a broken record. What they would soon discover is they had overlooked the most important clue. Some might even say their unawareness deserves whats coming to them. As they stood there wondering if the letter they found from Door was a suicide note, she already knew they might not understand why this song was playing on repeat until it was too late.
Below are some photos that were taken from Door’s computer, and her possible “suicide note”.
