Most american parents probably would have put braces on Georgia May Jagger….but what some might see as a flaw, or ugly, I see as a unique feature that brings out her beauty in a more interesting way. I think people are obsessed with an idea of perfect that isn’t perfect at all. Braces would have only fixed the wrong “problem”, what really needs some un-straightening is these lingering rigid “white picket fence” traditions that prevent people from being free enough to accept themselves and others for who they are. Personally, I love when people have slightly exaggerated, or unexpected features, it’s character…and for some odd reason i’ve especially always loved a gap between the two front teeth. I don’t’ know why… it’s just always looked good to me
I’m feeling Georgia May Jaggers modern boho style inspired by hippie era. A cultural influence that will never completely die out because it’s more free spirited. Any time society is in need of more answers, it always turns to a culture that is based on realness and depth. Even if mainstream society isn’t ready to go deeper into why things are the way they are, at least they can appear to know whats goin on. Check out the new 2011 Tropez Chanel Resort Collection.
I’d love the boho, hippie culture to evolve into today’s world – not just in fashion – but in overall cultural influences. Going further into what it means to be about Peace and Love. I think gypsy’s and hippies had a good start on this, but it’s time for it to move one step further and I think that’s why it’s no coincidence that Cystal Bowersox is in the position she is in. I very much see her as the new Janis Joplin, and not just because she did an amazing cover of her song and can sing with so much soul – but because she is affiliating herself with depth. If you haven’t heard her original songs on YouTube, this girl isn’t just a soulful singing earth mama, she’s singing about what her soul has to say, and conscious heart is something the world could use more of right now. Check out her original song on youtube here or check it out in the video above. She is a new generation of speaking your mind, breaking rules, and following heart instead of traditions…like a true hippie does.
I’ve always loved the eastern philosophies and gypsy cultures that hippie culture was born from. The open mindedness, the desire to explore the universe without causing harm to life. Respect for one another, community, unity. With the way things are in the world today economically and environmentally, what better time to revisit these ideals. There is a need for a more spiritual lifestyle to reemerge again into the mainstream – this can be done easily by pulling from the past and taking hippie bohemian lifestyle one step further…Look what Steve Jobs was able to do with his hippie influences, if you haven’t read about his spiritual journey before he started working for Apple you can read it here.
Many of my bohemian hippie friends aren’t even online, often I hear them talk about how modern technology and modern living clashes with what it means to be natural. I used to be the same way until I met a hip hopper that showed me a whole new way of looking at technology. Many of his points reminded me of the article in Wired Magazine that talks about the world wide web being the greatest influencer of positive social change. The article was called “The New Socialism: Global Collectivist Society Is Coming Online“, and it’s a GREAT read, worth checking out. How could I not change when all I really wanted was things to get better, and if this is was the new way of bringing about that change, I was on board. This got me thinking about how there is a way to bridge natural hippie spiritual lifestyle of the past into the future. Which is something I’ve noticed and respected in Urban culture – where I constantly hear people acknowledging influences that came before them that inspired the new direction they are going in.
The world is always in need of more love, especially during hard times. Often the signs of wanting things to feel different on the inside, are first seen outside of ourselves….you know kinda like a girl cutting off all her hair after a bad breakup. The outside changes, and then the inside next. Maybe you’ve recently changed your looks, or are starting to feel the desire to. Change can be a precursor to spiritual growth. But I’m done with change on the outside, I’m ready for more change in “the collective unconscious“. Time for modern boho’s to step up, not just in fashion, but with a voice as well – with a stronger message of truth and realness. I have a feeling the Modern Boho’s emerging like Crystal Bowersox, Georgia May Jagger, Steve Jobs -and so many others who are influenced by hippie lifestyle… are just the beginning of this new modern bohemian cultural continuation. As Crystal Bowersox sings, “tomorrow were gonna find out our destiny” today we can do something to make it a good one, by not tolerating what really makes this world ugly. By following in the footsteps of the hippies that came before us…who instead of following tradition, followed their heart, and just by doing so, the world will have more love.
